Our two children, Annette and Kathy, (now adult) attended Kirk Road school and both graduated from Athena High school. Our granddaughter, Ashley Oberg is currently a senior at Arcadia High School. Education: I attended Laurelton School (elementary) in Irondequoit, then graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School with a Regents diploma. I immediately entered active duty service with the U.S. Navy having enlisted in the Naval Reserve on my 17th birthday while still in high school. I then attended Electronics Technician Class “A” school at Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduation, I was assigned to duty on a radar picket destroyer USS Newell (DER-322). I left the Navy as a ETN2 second class petty officer. Employment: I was hired by RF Communications Inc. as an electronics technician in August 1963. I worked at RF for 34 years in a variety of managerial positions. Most notable was Division Quality Assurance Manager, then Director of Manufacturing for 11 years. My last position was Director of Programs for the US Navy/Canadian Navy Communications, an assignment of nine years. During these years I took many managerial, accounting, marketing, and human resource courses at a number of colleges and universities. Activities: My interests involve model railroading, collecting classic movies of the 30‘s and 40‘s, reading mystery/ spy thriller novels. I enjoy studying the circumstances and history of the events leading up to, during, and after World War II. I have an extensive library of history texts on this period. I am very interested in motor racing particularly Formula 1 and road racing. I have attended racing events all over the US and Canada since 1964, including stints as a pit crewman. Qualifications for Board Service: I have completed three years as a Board member, having served as BOE Vice President. I have become well acquainted with the issues, problems, challenges, and duties associated with the position. My business experience, educational background, and awareness of current events and economic climate are invaluable in understanding the challenges faced by education within Greece Central School District. I keep in mind the needs and concerns of the student population, district employees, and the district’s taxpayers and seek a balance between the conflicting demands of these stakeholder groups. I am proud of many improvements that were accomplished since July of 2005 when I began board service. I have sought to achieve more openness in conducting board business. We have achieved a more cost effective operation. We are seeking to improve our overall academic results while managing cost to the taxpayer. |
