Vote Yes on Budget and for Leary, Latus and Piccarreto - May 11, 2006

After careful review CARE (Citizens for Accountability and Reform in Education) has endorsed the Greece Central School District's 2006 - 2007 proposed budget. This endorsement is significant as it recognizes the wise allocation of taxpayer's money and the restraint shown in this proposed budget.

The 2006 - 2007 proposed budget prepared by Interim Superintendent Josephine Kehoe has downsized central office staff by 42 positions. It has reallocated monies back to the classroom to directly benefit students and maintains all current academic programs. New computers and much needed additional special education resources are also included. Spending has been held to 3.59% over last year's budget. This budget includes the first significant cuts in administrative staff and line item spending in seven years. CARE endorses this budget.

CARE also enthusiastically endorses school board candidates Jim Leary, Christine Latus and Carla Piccarreto. The combined talents of these three candidates are truly outstanding and they can be counted on to bring new ideas and energy to the district improvements that have begun this year.

Jim Leary, Christine Latus and Carla Piccarreto want to continue to move the district forward and not let the district slide backwards to the days of the Walts and Keller-Cogan era. Voters should remember that under Walts & Keller-Cogan there were proven cases of employee harassment and teacher intimidation was rampant. Five teachers won positive determinations by the EEOC. A class action lawsuit was filed by special education parents to protect the rights of their kids to receive state mandated educational opportunities.

Our school district had been in turmoil for the 7 years under Walts & Keller-Cogan. Although the district budget rose by over $70 million during those years and many construction projects were undertaken, our children went without appropriate textbooks, computers and basic school supplies. Funds for those items went into more and more administrators and foolish spending. Two members of former town supervisor Boily's "candidates ticket" have openly supported Walts and Keller-Cogan. CARE is deeply concerned that the election of any member of the Boily ticket will move our school district back towards the disastrous policies and activities of the Walts & Keller-Cogan years.

The town of Greece as well as the school district has experienced far too much notoriety recently with the Greece town assessor scandal, numerous arrests and the alleged impact on taxpayers and the school district of improper assessments. The Kodak/Greece assessment scandal started in the 1990's and estimates of the damage caused to the school district and taxpayers are in the millions of dollars. This situation remains unresolved as the matter is in the courts. The leader of the Boily team, former town supervisor Roger Boily, defended our former Greece town assessor as recently as June of last year in well documented newspaper articles.

Our Greece Central School District must keep moving forward and put the Walts & Keller-Cogan years behind us. CARE encourages residents to vote for Jim Leary, Christine Latus and Carla Piccarreto. They are not professional politicians. They are hard working, honest community volunteers, parents of school age children and advocates of improved educational opportunities for all Greece students. They will move our school district forward rather than backwards.

Please pull levers #1, #5 and #2 on Tuesday, May 16th for Leary, Latus and Piccarreto. They will continue the recent improvements in our district and keep our schools free of politics and scandal.

Hello, my name is Christine Latus.

I just wanted to let readers know that there were errors in this mornings paper. I am the former teacher and stay at home mother. Carla's information was also inaccurate. She is an advocate and member of PASSN and her age, well . she can correct that one  Our Bios along with Jim Leary's are on the www.voteforboard.com site if you would like more in-depth and accurate information. ( The D&C online information was corrected however it is not as easy to correct mistakes once printed)

Mr. Yeara,
    # 1. I am of the opinion that the Dr. Walts / Keller Cogan regime, to put it nicely, were the best at bullying tactics and lacked some vital leadership abilities. Our district will be struggling with issues of mutual respect, openness and trust for a long time. I am happy to say that from what I have seen, the environment has changed for the better since their absence.

    # 2 No, I did not attend the public spectacle and protest to save MEG !

Sincerely,
Christine Latus

Questions to ask BOE candidates - May 2, 2006

Here are some questions to ask potential BOE candidates that might help voters determine who they wish to vote for.

Ask them all how they feel about the practices & policies of the Walts/Keller -Cogan administration.

Ask them if they were in attendance at the Fall board meeting in the Apollo Aud and if they were chanting for Meg. (this is a Yes or No question....I don't care why or why not!)

Ask Mr. Boily what he thinks was the main reason he was voted out as Greece town supervisor.

These are all questions; that if they read this, I would like answered. I think many of my other questions would be answered just by how they answer these. I am sure that this will get back to them so maybe they can even answer this on this website.

BEWARE OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF ANSWERS:

1) When they answer the question with a question...After all, they want YOUR vote right? It's not a quiz!

2) Answers that have a lot of words but don't answer the original question.

3) If it is a Yes or No question, look for the words 'Yes' or 'No' in the answer.

If it's not there, they do not want to say. (which means they have NO Interest in honesty!)

4) refusing to answer ANY question should make you ask yourself whay would I vote for a person who has something to hide?

5) Look for picking and choosing only SOME questions to answer; means they are affraid of the answers to the others

6) It seems to be easier & easier for people to lie these days...it seems everyone wants to find soem portion of truth in a lie to validate it! Watch for partial truths (or unspoken ones!)

So....who is going to answer first?

Thank you!
Mr. John D. Yeara

Hi Folks:

HMO proudly endorses the team of Jim Leary, Christine Latus and Carla Piccarreto. Last year it was HMO with the right prescription for Greece schools. This year, renew your prescription by electing LLP to continue the progress started by the present board majority. Remember L-LIsten, L-Learn, P-Promise, or Long, Live, Progress is their motto. Last year the magic number was 2-5-8. This year, let's make it 1-5-2 when you vote on May 16th.

Let's keep the momentum going by getting the right three people to next year's board. LLP guarantees continued progress. The Boily Bunch, Hauer and VanOrman represent the failure of the Walts/Keller-Cogan era. Don't be "Boiled" over!

HMO did not let you down. We need LLP to continue to work toward our goals and objectives. Boily's group, in a fund raising statement, says "We need to turn the tide in Greece Central." Since HMO has already turned the tide, one must certainly question the implied direction they would take this district - back to the past! Vote LLP, Levers 1-5-2 on May 16.

observations that outrage me: - April 30, 2006

Hi all,

I wanted to share a few observations that outrage me: 1). Lets keep the momentum moving forward! Is on Carla’s profile on votefortheboard.com. Now the Boily Bunch is using it. They were against the current BOE and using the saying Get Back to Learning. Now it is Lets keep the momentum moving forward!

2). Until the announcement of their candidacy Hauer and Boily did not go to BOE meetings. They could not be bothered by us commoners, so they had no clue to what the real issues were. They have their own list of priorities that they wont admit to. It is no secret they have changed strategy and have started taking the issues that Carla and Christine are running on. At the Post interview Boily made no bones about saying Pat Tydings started to get him up to speed.

3). I saw for myself how Hauer and Julia tried to keep Meg on as super, with the SOS meeting. Meg, who Julia herself could not get to have a meeting with me. Meg, the woman that loves our children, but could not be bothered by meeting with parents that had issues and concerns. Meg, the woman who could not let go of her own ego and pride for the betterment of the children and district.

4). Not one of the Boily Bunch stepped up to the plate over the last 3 years except to rant, rave, and yell at the currant BOE over the Meg issue. None of them tried to give any help with special ed or any of the other issues this district has faced. WHERE WERE THEY THEN?

5). Why are they not outraged as Carla, Christine, Jim, and the rest of us are about the J-Mac travesty? Greece did such a great service to him. Yeah right, ha ha. This is what Greece did for him. Copy of a letter from Connie Boice to myself:

I wanted to share this with you. These are words OUT OF HIS MOTHER'S MOUTH that proves Greece should stop taking ANY credit for this! Look at where their "in district placement and services" got him! 4th grade level!! I believe the law reads that they are supposed to be ready for the world! (Not the exact words but no time to look them up!) Isn't this interesting! They also don't mention that he WASN'T ever a player on the team, but manager on the side lines, and that he was only put in because the team was winning, and that the other team was told to "hang back". I don't mean to sound like a jealous Mom...but c'mon, lets keep it real!! Gotta run. Let me know what you think!

Clip From Article:
My main worry throughout Jason's life has been getting a financial backup for him," Debbie McElwain said in an interview. "Because he's not going to have a great job, nor is he going to have a college education, nor probably a high school diploma, it'll give him some financial backup and that's all I care about." Before the movie deal came along, she said, one big concern was "what if his parents are dead, how is he going to make it on his own? It's taken some burden off us. "He's only academically a fourth-grade level - people have got to realize this. That's why I keep my eye on him." • • •
c Neuroscience to Treatment (CRC Press, 2006) This is why PASSN has been fighting so hard. This is rubbish. Where were they when we were fighting for these kids? Where were they when we were fighting to get the 7640 amendment passed?

6). Mike Sophia is heading up there fund raiser. That is funny Mike is the same person that was a main player in the CQE group. The same person that called me a foot stumper, because I refused to be quieted by his little group of self proclaimed heroes of Walts/ Meg chanters. They did not care about issues then what has changed? In my opinion nothing. They just can’t let the public at large know that they have their own list of priorities to get accomplished!!

Carla has brought programs to the district, that she has paid for out of her own pocket. Carla has paid for training of district personnel out of her own pocket. Carla is paying for additional help for her child just to be mainstreamed. It is no thanks to the district that James is doing so as well as he is.

Christine is a regular fixture at Long Ridge. Asking questions and fighting for the rights of teachers and students. She has had many discussions with Marcano the Math curriculum person.

In my opinion it is just wrong for the Boily Bunch to pretend to care after all the years they DID NOTHING TO HELP. Why cash in on their political names and maiden names now? Would it have anything to do with trying to cover up any tax scandal stuff, or is it just a ploy to get the Rotary/Chamber/ PTA Council group back in the drivers seat again? I don’t know I am just asking Where were they then and Why should we trust them now?

Regards,
Mona Francis

Election issues - April 29, 2006

ISSUE #H1: BOE Accountability.

Point 1: In New York state, BOE members are elected public officials.

Point 2: On Feb 14th, GBOE voted to approve a new AGCEP contract (collective bargaining agreement).

Point 3: As of Apr 28th (74 days later) a copy of the fully executed contract is still not available for public access (e.g. in the Town library, or by FOIL).

Question 1: Should GBOE members be accountable and diligent in making public information available to the public - the very people they asked to serve and represent when they ran for office?

Board candidates Boiley, Hauer, Hurwitz, Latus, Leary, Piccarreto, Van Orman may want to weigh in on this issue.

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may have heard I am not running this year. I am moving and do not want to limit my search to just Greece. I still support Carla and Christine fully, that is why I along with Connie went around getting signatures for them. I am so sorry that I had to drop out and leave them like this hopefully they will find a good third. To everyone that supported me thank you.

Mona

BOE Conference - April 6, 2006

Hi Everyone,
I want to encourage anyone thinking of running for the BOE next year, to go to the Monroe County BOE conference. Carla Piccarreto and I found it very interesting and informative. While reviewing the information with Christine Latus we all had to laugh Greece needs 227 signatures to run others need 27, 36 and other really small numbers.

We were really surprised that none of the other candidates were there nor, had they sent anyone to gather info for them.

Regards,
Mona
